Weekend Round-Up: 11-12 May
Heanor RC were in action across the UK this weekend, with the club trip to Blackpool featuring twelve in yellow and blue and more competing in Sheffield, Awsworth and Lea.
In wet and windy conditions on the north west coast, Dale Annable was HRC’s leading performer at the Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k. In his first appearance since his switch, Dale finished second overall just outside 32 minutes. Joe Rainsford ran a massive negative split to dip under 34 minutes and finished fifth overall, with Steve Ashmore showing a proper return to form with a top-10 finish.
Others enjoying the springtime trip to the seaside were Tony Weatherson, Carl Hughes, who clocked a new PB just over 38 minutes, Wendy, 2nd female overall, Paul Winfield, Ed Godber, Lizzie Poole, Steve Wardle, Jo Potter and Chris Booker.
Rose Leivers and sister Abbie were amongst the 6000 taking part in the 32nd running of the Sheffield Half Marathon. Rose,three weeks on from her London Marathon exploits, was first back in a new personal best of 1:50:02; Abbie followed closely behind in 1:53:07.
Neil Hopwell set out for a sub-22 and just about squeaked it at the Awsworth 5k. Used to running ultra courses, Neil crossed the line in 21:55.
Tim Hollings, who finally received international clearance to compete in the yellow and blue this week, bagged first place at the Lea 10k in his first official outing in club colours.
