A host of Heanor RC members ran in the tough midday heat at the widely-enjoyed Crich Monument Race on Saturday.

The 11.3k off-road race includes 1000ft of climbing and features “fantastic views of the Derbyshire countryside”.

Andy Parkin was first home in yellow and blue, crossing the line 12th in 51:17. 156 finished the race and Ed Godber (21st), Paul Mercer (28th) and Paul Winfield (43rd) all placed well-inside halfway.

Rose Leivers just managed to crack the top-100 as Carl Hughes ran the same time to finish 101st, with Abbie Leivers two places further back in 103rd.

The following day, youngster Lily Winfield continued her remarkable 2014 upward curve with victory in the Race for Life 5k at Darley Park.

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life is the UK’s largest women-only fundraising event and Sunday’s event saw thousands more take part.

Lily, who broke her 1500m PB a few days before to move up to eleventh in the UK for her age in 2014, crossed the line in a time of 19:52.

At the Wyre Forest Trail Half Marathon in Worcestershire, Paul Bratby clocked 2:14:35 to finish 206th.
