Weekend Round-Up: 17-18 August
Carl Hughes and Rose Leivers competed in the Race the Train event in Tywyn, Wales this weekend as the traditional wet weather returned to ensure the race was as tough as ever.
Carl and Rose continued the HRC club tradition of competing in the event as the pair took on the fourteen mile Rotary Challenge across the Welsh countryside,
In wet and windy conditions, Carl ran 1:42.58 to finish 117th and also managed to beat the train, which arrived at the finish in 1:48.07. Rose placed 65th female, and 522nd overall, as she crossed the line in 2:04.05.
A little closer to home and Dale Annable took victory in the Belper Rugby Rover 30k race. Dale had the race in the bag with four miles gone and continued with the strong pace to win in 2:03.02 as he prepares for his first marathon this autumn.
Danielle Smith warmed up for her forthcoming Derbyshire appearance at next month’s Inter-Counties Track & Field Championships by running her second-fastest 800m ever at the Charnwood AC Young Athletes Open Meeting.
Danielle finished second on the Paula Radcliffe Track at Loughborough University in 2:28 and also set a new 200m best of 28.9. Emily Deeming knocked almost a second off her previous best to also post a new PB of 30.2 in the half-lap event.
At the Rolls Royce 10k in Mickleover last Wednesday night, Lisa Palmer and Wendy Mullineux led a Heanor RC 1-2 in the women’s standings as Carl Hughes and Rob Rainsford also competed.
