Weekend Round-Up: 27-28 April
Heanor RC had sixteen runners compete last weekend at the Derby 10k. Conditions were cool and breezy for the latest club championship event which saw Joe and Louise pick up the maximum twenty five points on offer.
Joe made the last minute decision to run following recent illness and came through the field well to finish 15th in 34:32. Tim Holling, running in neutral colours as he awaits his competition clearance on May 1st, ran a personal best just nine seconds further back in 34:41.
Jon Curtis finished comfortably under the 40-minute mark to post a new personal best of 39:29. Carl Hughes (40:56) dipped just under 41 minutes, as did Ned Needham (40:57), whilst Paul Mercer smashed his personal best to clock 41:42.
Paul Winfield (43:59) made his Heanor RC 10k debut, with Steve Wardle (46:28) and Alan Smith (49:53) also picking up club championship points.
Louise Insley was the first female back for the yellow and blue, finished 6th female and 2nd V40 in a time of 40:35. Jill Burke maintained her good record at the Derby 10k with victory in the V50 category (41:25), with Wendy Roethenbaugh (41:40) just fifteen seconds behind scooping the third V45 prize.
Jo Potter improved on her time from twelve months ago by almost thirty seconds to run a new PB of 48:56. Carla Fox ran 54:15 in her debut 10k whilst Sarah Lewis (55:33) was just over a minute behind as she continues her preparations for next month’s Rat Race Dirty Weekender Challenge.
Just one week after her 5:23:10 debut at the Virgin London Marathon, Dawn Morland was under the hour in 58:46, with Claire Hughes (1:00:38) completing the women’s efforts.
Ashley Deeming ventured over to the Spanish capital to run in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Madrid Half Marathon. Deeming finished first Brit and 26th overall has he ran 1:20:51 on a ‘bloody hard’ course.
Wendy Mullineux competed at the Moira 5 mile. Wendy tracked second throughout but eventually had to settle for third on an undulating course.
Danielle Smith was the sole HRC competitior at the opening Derbyshire Tack & Field Mini League fixture of the season. Smith ran 2:37.8 to finish second in the U15 girls race at Mount St Mary’s College in Spinkhill.
