Weekend Round-Up: 5-7 July
Seven Heanor RC runners competed in the glorious sunshine at the Colin Potter 10k last Friday night (05/07). After severe rain caused the event to be cancelled and then rearranged in 2012, this year’s event could not have been held in more opposite conditions, with glorious sunshine beating down on Darley Park.
Carl Hughes, in the first of a weekend racing double-header, was first home for the yellow and blue, finishing 30th in 41:12. Rose Leivers finished eighth female and clocked a new personal best of 46:44, just ahead of teammate Lizzie Poole (46:58), with both girls securing top-100 finishes
Jeff Everitt followed up his 49:46 at the Underwood 10k by dipping just inside the forty nine minute mark in 48:59 whilst Jo Potter (51:06), Abbie Leivers (51:57) and Dave Probert (52:53) rounded off the septet’s efforts.
At the Derbyshire Track & Field Mini League on Saturday, a trio of HRC juniors enjoyed victories and personal bests at the recently refurbished Moorways Stadium, Derby.
In a busy day, Phoebe Winfield competed in every event going, setting a personal best of 13.4 in the U11 80m before going on to place well in the 150m (28.0), 600m (2:30.0) and high jump (0.95m).
Phoebe’s older sister, Lily, also set a new PB in the U13 800m, shaving 0.08 seconds off her best to finish third in 2:38.0.
Danielle Smith continued her winning form in the U15 800m. Danielle won the 1500m at the last Mini League fixture in Spinkhill and repeated the feat in the shorter middle-distance event, winning by almost two seconds in 2:30.7.
